Black as midnight, deep dark cherry-red colour with nice blue rings and an intense red hue and long legs. Dense and clean.
Excellent complexity starting with jammy raisins, violets, cassis, plum, black liquorice, blackberry aroma and continuing with spice as cinnamon and incense, hickory accents, delicate chocolate and toffee notes. Nice balsamic and mineral slate and Chinese ink hints.
Warm, long, velvety, very well balance, elegant and driving on the finish.
Tempranillo grapes used in this wine come from a single vine close to 90 years old at an altitude of 825 meters and with sandy loam and sandy clay soils located in the North East of La Horra. After being hand-harvested and undergoing cluster selection in the vineyards, the grapes are destemmed and go through gravity to two new 500 L new French oak barrels, with two days of cold-skin maceration prior to fermentation and cap punched by hand daily. An additional 20 days of maturation follow, with malolactic fermentation taking place. The wine is aged for a maximum 22 months in French oak barrels. Egg white clarification. It then spends an additional 15 months ageing in bottle before leaving the cellar.
The 2011 harvest was characterized by a medium-high yield production with extreme climatology conditions really cold winter and hottest spring and summer than average. That makes this vintage special and give to the wines an intense color, a sweet tannin, adequate pH and acidity for aging into barrels accompanied by a proper degree of alcohol.
The 2011 vintage was qualified as EXCELLENT.
This wine is ideally served at temperature (16ºC) to accompany steak, venison and other hearty fare such as stews and roast, as hard cheeses as well. We suggest decanting.
Recomended consumption time from now until 2031.
