Tempranillo clone and old vines. The Tempranillo clone in the García Figuero family vines comes from cuttings taken from pre-phylloxera vines, thanks to the French religious order which arrived in La Horra in 1908. After the terrible phylloxera plague between 1912 and 1920, they redoubled their efforts to replanting the vines in La Horra with the best vines that were already perfectly adapted to the rigorous climate of the area.
In the following years, the García family and the Figuero family continued to plant vines using the same system. Later on, José María selected plots which produced the best grapes. Thanks to the “fruits of a lifetime of hard work,” today Garcia Figuero enjoys the selection of grapes from 21 plots of vineyards with vines over 60 years old.
