Appearance
Intense and deep high cherry-red colour with very lively tones. Clean and bright with dense tears.
Nose
Intense and very complex nose with a large presence of red fruit (raspberry, currant) with spicy notes (coriander seeds, pink pepper), floral touches (violet, lilac) and roasted (coffee and cigar tobacco). A very captivating nose.
Taste
Dense mouth with a tannic structure with character and a fleshy finish with slight salty touch. In the mouth all the aromas that we perceive in the nose are enhanced, giving this wine a special attraction. An intense wine with a marked personality.
The Tempranillo grapes used in this wine come exclusively from Family Selection vines older than 60 years from La Horra. Soils are clay, sandy and gravels with an altitude between 800-840 meters. After being hand-harvested and undergoing cluster selection in the vineyards, the grapes are destemmed and go through gravity-controlled tank of 7,500 L, with two to four days of cold-skin maceration prior to fermentation. An additional two months of maturation follow, with malolactic fermentation taking place. The wine is aged for fifteen months in new French oak barrels. It is then aged an additional one year in bottle before leaving the cellar.
The 2017 low-yielding and early harvest was characterized by the deep frost April 27th, 65 % less yield in La Horra. The climatology conditions were high temperatures and severe drought during spring and summer, gave very small berries and healthy bunches. The harvesting was the earlier ever from September 14th 27th–and gave to the wines powerful black fruit aromas, concentration, polished tannins, intense colour and low acidity.
This wine is ideally served at room temperature (16ºC- 61ºF) to accompany steak, venison and other hearty fare such as stews and roast, as hard cheeses as well. We suggest decanting.
Recommended consumption time from now until 2032.
