Appearance
Nice and intense cherry-red colour. Dense tears clean, bright and extremely well presented.
Nose
Intense and complex nose power, predominance of candy red berries (redcurrant and blueberry) with hints of pure dark cacao and mint y aromas. In a second layer flowers as violets, minerals and species. All flavours are seductive and in harmony.
Taste
The bouquet is powerful, excellent personality from the “terroir” with elegant tannins. In the after taste the fine oak notes make reappearance. Long finish in the mouth.
The Tempranillo grapes used in this wine come exclusively from vines older than 60 years from La Horra. Soils are clay and sandy with a small amount of limestone and at altitude between 800-840 meters. After being hand-harvested and undergoing cluster selection in the vineyards, the grapes are destemmed and go through gravity-controlled tank of 7.500 L, with two to four days of cold-skin maceration prior to fermentation. An additional two months of maturation follow, with malolactic fermentation taking place in barrels. The wine is aged for sixteen months in new 500 L French oak barrels. It is then aged an additional year in bottle before leaving the cellar.
The 2014 harvest was characterized by a high yield production. The climatology conditions were very good along the cycle, very healthy vintage and especially along September. The early harvesting September 26th-30th gave to the wines powerful fruit aromas, sweet tannins, intense colour and adequate acidity for aging into barrels accompanied by a proper degree of alcohol.
The 2014 vintage was qualified as VERY GOOD.
We suggest decanting. This wine is ideally served at room temperature (16ºC) to accompany steak, venison and other hearty fare such as stews and roast, as hard cheeses as well.
