José María García was born in La Horra in 1936,into a family of viticulturists. In 1961 he married Milagros Figuero, also from La Horra and from a vine-growing family. They had three children: Carlos, Henar y Antonio, who married Ester, J. Felipe and Pilar. The entire family is now dedicated to the vineyard and the winery.
From the early age of 12, José Maria was already planting vines and looking after them with the dedication his grandparents had taught him. From them, he also inherited patience and a solid work ethic. In 1968, Garcia Figuero started selling grapes to some of the most iconic wineries in the region. Then, at the end of the 1990s, the first steps were taken to create a winery from which they would make their own wines.
¨Our wish is that our winery and the wines that come from there are a reflection of the hard work and tenacity gained from generations of experience.¨José María declared.
In 2001, the García Figuero Vineyard and Winery became a reality. Wine is made from grapes grown on the 80 hectares that are Estate vineyards, of which a third are old vines of over 60 years. Tinto Figuero is sold in more than 25 countries and their wines are guaranteed by the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero.
